Overview

Pastelaria Vitoria Broadway, nestled in the vibrant heart of Somerville, MA, offers a genuine taste of Brazilian street food culture. This unassuming spot at 192 Broadway specializes in pastéis—crispy, fried pockets bursting with flavorful fillings that celebrate traditional Brazilian flavors. The menu’s standout is undoubtedly the pastéis, particularly the Pastel De Palmito and the beef and cheese variants, which have earned high praise from locals and newcomers alike for their generous portions and perfectly balanced textures.

The charm of Pastelaria Vitoria Broadway extends beyond its food to the warm, welcoming atmosphere created by a small but dedicated staff. Many patrons appreciate the multilingual assistance at the counter, easing the experience for English, Spanish, and Portuguese speakers. This personal touch enhances the cozy, intimate space that invites guests to savor their meals on-site or grab a quick, satisfying bite to go.

Beyond the iconic pastéis, the menu offers other authentic Brazilian delights such as coxinha de frango com catupiry, flan, and brigadeiro cake slices, as well as a refreshing selection of natural juices and smoothies made from tropical fruits like passion fruit, acerola, and cupuaçu. These natural beverages beautifully complement the rich, often fried main dishes, helping to balance the palate.

The experience may come with a minor trade-off, as the items are freshly prepared and can require a short wait during busy times. The compact dining area, though cozy, can become warm, adding to the lively energy of a place that thrives on authenticity rather than pretension. Customers seeking a robust and genuine Brazilian culinary experience will find a special kind of charm here, especially those who have a fondness for pastéis that rival those made back home.

This spot caters to an audience looking for comfort food with flair—whether longtime fans of Brazilian cuisine or curious food adventurers eager to explore traditional flavors. Pastelaria Vitoria Broadway is not just a meal; it’s a bite-sized journey into Brazil’s savory street food heritage right in Somerville’s urban landscape.

Nice pastelitos! The girl at the cash register spoke good English, Spanish and Portuguese which is helpful. She was also very helpful and patient taking the time to explain to me what things where and the prices. I got a cavasa coconut pudding bread , flan, and a chocolate hazelnut cake bomb. I also had beef and cheese and onion pastelitos which were so good right out the fryer. Only thing was that it was kind of expensive for what I got. Pastelitos where 7$ each, casava coconut bread 3$, flan 4$, chocolate bomb 3.50$, 2L soda 5$. I recommend the pastelitos for sure!

Wonderful staff, wonderful atmosphere. It’s my first time trying pastéis, and I was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portions were. The crispy texture of the pastry was perfectly complemented by the filling, for which I got the shop’s recommendation of chicken with heart of palm. The texture of the heart of palm goes so well with the pastry that I am keen to try another heart of palm filling next time. It was a delightful experience.

Ooh, I love this place, I can't believe I didn't notice it until recently. Although small, it exudes a cozy atmosphere with the sweetest staff and most delicious delights. Traditional Brazilian handy foodies to grab and go, or sit and enjoy with a coffee or some Guarana soda. Make sure to try a sandwich.

Apr 2024: Enjoyed the meal, this place was recommended to me and it was quite delicious had some pasteles which are a fried rectangular dish stuffed with your choice— I had cheese and pastel de palmito. It is quite greasy so make sure you get some napkins. There is a large language barrier where the members speak only in Portuguese which is a minor problem although had a tough time communicating for the wait time. They make these fresh so be prepared to wait. It also gets pretty hot inside so may feel uncomfortable on a hot day. It’s a cute little shop and highly recommend supporting local shops!

If you go there, you MUST eat a PASTEL. My sensation is that they owned a pastelaria in Brazil before coming to the US. All other food there is below average. The sweets are full of sugar. And the products in the shelves not the best quality, BUT the pastel is exceptional!
